Maltese Ministry of Education and Sport in collaboration with the Maltese Sports Council, The Malta Basketball Association and Malta Masters Basketball Ethusiasts would like to invite you to:
1st Annual Maltese Masters Basketball Tournament to be held from the 27th to the 29th of September 2013. at Tal-Qroqq National Sports Complex.
Men Over 40 and 50 years and women over 30 years are invited to participate.

Tournament Rules
Playing Rules
1. All games will be played under FIBA rules with the following exceptions:
2. The organising committee’s decisions are final in all matters and may change
or alter any rule or regulation on the day to benefit the smooth running of the
tournament.
3. Mens Pool Stages (Saturday) –Mens 40’s & 50’s
a) Each Game will consist of 4 No10- Minute Quarters-NON STOP CLOCK
b) Two Time- Outs permitted per Half
c) Half Time will be a maximum of 5 minutes
d) On Saturday each Mens Game must be completed in a One Hour Time Slot. In
the event of a game running late, the Games Commissioner may make a
decision to Run the Clock for a portion / all of the Third or Fourth Quarter.
e) If the number of teams playing the tournament is large the games might be played on Friday too.
4. Mens Play-Off Stages (Sunday) –Mens 40’s & 50’s
a) Each Game will consist of 2 No. 15- Minute Halves –NON STOP CLOCK
b) One Time- Out permitted per Half
c) Half Time will be a maximum of 5 minutes
d) On Sunday each Mens Game must be completed in a 50 Minute Time-Slot. In
the event of a game running late, the Games Commissioner may make a
decision to Run the Clock for a portion / all of the Second Half
5. Ladies League Competition – Saturday & Sunday
a) Each Game will consist of 2 No. 10- Minute Halves –STOP CLOCK
b) One Time- Out permitted per Half
c) Half Time will be a maximum of 5 minutes
d) On Sunday each Ladies Game must be completed in a 50 Minute Time-Slot.
In the event of a game running late, the Games Commissioner may make a
decision to Run the Clock for a portion / all of the Second Half
6. Tied Games
In the event of a tied game, the five players for each team will shoot one free
throw each with the team scoring the most baskets being deemed winners. If
the game is tied after each team has taken their free throws, the game will be
decided on a sudden death shoot out with players taking free throws in the
same order as the initial shoot out.
7. Fouls
a) Players will be disqualified after 5 Personal Fouls in any match.
b) In games consisting of 4 Quarters, Teams will be in ‘penalty’ in each Quarter,
once they reach 5 team fouls.
c) In games consisting of 2 Halves, Teams will be in ‘penalty’ in each Half, once
they reach 5 team fouls.
8. Pool Leagues
a) League positions are decided by awarding 2 points for a win, 1 point for a loss
and no points awarded for a forfeit or default. If 2 teams are tied on league
points then the result of the games involving the 2 teams will resolve the tie.
If 3 teams are tied on league points, then a classification is set up which only
takes account of the results of the tied teams against each other. Positions are
determined by points difference calculated for each team.
b) The Schedule of Games for the Mens Gold, Silver and Bronze Playoff will be
published on the Galway Masters Facebook Page on Saturday Evening the 3rd
of November on completion of all League Games.
13.Players
Players are ONLY permitted to play/register for ONE TEAM in any
competition within the Masters Tournament.
14. Age Limit for the 2013 tournament is that all men playing in the Mens 40’s
Tournament must be at least 40 by 31st of December 2013, and women must
be 30 by the same date. Players in the 50’s Tournament must be at least 50 by
31st of December 2013.
15. All Players
must provide their Date of Birth. Proof of age may be requested
and the playing of underage players will result in immediate disqualification.
(Any team is entitled to request proof of age from another team through the
organising committee on the day of the tournament)
16. In the event
that a team is short of players, which would make them unable to
continue to participate, the team can make representation to the Management
Panel to request a relaxation of the Player Eligibility rule. This can only be
considered in exceptional circumstances.
17. It is expected
that all players conduct themselves in the spirit of masters
basketball. Failure to so may incur disciplinary action.
The Malta Masters Organisers WILL NOT tolerate abuse of referees or officials and any such abuse will result in immediate player disqualification with the possibility of future ban on playing in the tournament
